The on-campus?Communication Disorders (MS) program application deadline for Fall 2019?is?January 15,?2019.?You must apply through the CSDCAS online application.* If you are an Emerson undergraduate student applying to the program, use this Application Form, not the?CSDCAS?application.

Highly qualified candidates will be invited for an?interview with members of the faculty in late?February 2019.

Basic Information

All on-campus Communication Disorders applicants must apply through the?CSDCAS online application.?The CSDCAS application, like any common application, is convenient if you are applying to many schools. You only need to fill it out once, and you will send one set of your credentials directly to CSDCAS.

Once we receive all your credentials from CSDCAS, your application will be sent to the admission committee.

The CSDCAS Application Deadline is?January 15, 2019. If an applicant does not submit their online application prior to the posted deadline, they will no longer be able to apply to the program. It is the applicant’s responsibility to meet the deadline requirements.

CSDCAS Delays

When you apply via the CSDCAS application, there may be a delay in processing your application here at Emerson as we wait for your CSDCAS application to reach Verified status before we enter it into our system. During the busiest times of the year, this may take a few weeks.

However, as long as you submit your application to CSDCAS prior to the?application deadline, it will be considered in good standing. We understand it may take some time for CSDCAS to continue the processing on their end.

Once we receive your verified CSDCAS application, you will receive an email that confirms the receipt of your application and invites you to set up an account in the Emerson College?Application Portal.

  • Only test scores sent directly from the testing service will be considered official.

Letters of Recommendation

We require three?letters of recommendation from persons best able to assess academic and professional qualifications, including motivations, goals, and clinical potential.?


Essay

There is one required essay for this program that will be?submitted with your CSDCAS application. The essay?prompt for the Fall 2019?application is:

Reflecting on your work, life, and educational experiences, describe how you decided to pursue a career in communication disorders/ speech-language pathology. Since we can’t interview all applicants to our program, this essay is our opportunity to get to know you. Let your personality shine through so that we are able to get a good sense of who you are.

Essay length: 2 pages, double-spaced (500 words)?


Interviews

Highly qualified candidates for the on-campus program?will be invited to campus for an interview February 2019. Candidates will meet individually with two members of the faculty. On-campus interviews are highly encouraged, but Skype interviews are available for those applicants who are unable to travel to campus.?Candidates will receive invitations to interview at the end of January 2019.


Fellowships

There is no separate application for fellowships. Applicants are considered for fellowships at the time of application review.


Pre-requisite Courses

We require completion of the following undergraduate courses before starting the program:

  • Language Acquisition
  • Intro to Audiology
  • Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism
  • A Survey?Course?of Speech and Language Disorders (also called?Introduction to Communication Disorders)
  • Phonetics*
  • Speech Science (also called Acoustics)*

You may take these at Emerson or?any institution, either online or in-person.?The courses do not have to be complete?prior to applying for admission, but must be completed with a grade of B?or better prior to beginning the program. Emerson offers these courses during the fall and spring?semesters?as well as in a concentrated format during the summer. Requests for evaluation are usually honored within 20 working days of receipt of all required materials and fees. As you look toward the end of your Emerson undergraduate career, we invite you to consider staying at Emerson to earn your Master of Science in Communication Disorders degree on campus. To take advantage of this opportunity,?you must apply by November 2019.?Highly qualified candidates will be invited for an interview with members of the faculty during the last week of?November. On-campus interviews are highly encouraged, but Skype interviews are available for those applicants who are unable to meet in person. Applicants who do not receive admission during the early application review period will still be considered for regular admission; no further action will be required. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.3 to apply.

  • Official GRE scores (The MS program is highly competitive, and it is unusual for an applicant to be admitted with GRE Verbal and Quantitative score of less than 50th percentile). The GRE is mandatory, so if interested, we encourage you to schedule your test date in plenty of time to make the deadline. Traditionally, it takes between about 2 weeks from the test date for the Office of Graduate Admission to receive your official scores. An application cannot be reviewed without this required credential.
