New England, and especially Boston, is known for its unpredictable weather. While attending Emerson, you’ll experience four dramatically different seasons that overlap one another. Bringing the right clothing will keep you comfortable while walking around campus.
October–December; 46–60°F (8–15°C)
New England is known for its tree leaves, which turn vivid orange, yellow, and red during the fall. Wear medium-weight clothing.
December–March; 0–37°F (-17–3°C)
Winter is often highlighted by very cold weather, heavy winds, snow blizzards, and frost. Wear heavy coats, gloves, hats, and footwear throughout the winter and during the chilly days before and after it.
April–June; 38–60°F (3–15°C)
Spring begins with milder weather accompanied by rain, and the daylight begins to last longer. Wear medium-weight clothing.
July–September; 60–95°F (15–35°C)
Summer finally arrives, bringing extreme heat and humidity. Wear light-weight clothing.

Consider purchasing personal care products and school supplies when you arrive at Emerson instead of packing them. You can buy personal care items at local pharmacies and school supplies at nearby office supply stores or at the Emerson Bookstore.
Your electrical appliances, such as curling irons, alarm clocks, and other items, may require different voltage than U.S. outlets. We recommend you purchase voltage converters, or simply purchase U.S. versions of these items when you arrive in Boston.
