Almost from the first day they arrive, Emerson's journalism students are immersed in the rich reporting opportunities all around the College, from the State House just two blocks away to the adjacent Theatre District, Chinatown, major sports franchises, world-class museums, historical sites—all part of Boston's diverse and teeming metropolis.
Our program prepares students to report their stories in words, images, and sounds. They incorporate the latest technologies and have at their disposal a state-of-the-art television production studio, editing labs, cameras, and recorders. Program and college opportunities routinely extend beyond the classroom to include coverage of national political conventions, inaugurations, the Olympics, the Oscars, baseball’s spring training, and a host of other exciting venues.
Keeping pace with the profession and industry trends, the department has adopted a new multimedia curriculum. It positions our students to assume meaningful roles in the field, doing much more than just writing news. As an undergraduate student, you will have ample opportunity to work with award-winning on-campus media outlets: WERS and WECB FM radio stations, Emerson Independent Video, WEBN-TV, and the Berkeley Beacon (Emerson's weekly newspaper). Our students also contribute to the Boston Globe, local television and radio stations, and websites. Emerson alumni flourish and are eager to create professional opportunities for our students. Internships abound and a distinguished faculty drawn from across the spectrum of media and universities stand ready to assist in creating a network of possibilities.
Whether your passion is hard news, investigative reporting, features, sports, music, theater, social media, the environment, or foreign reporting, you can find someone on our faculty who has covered the area and is eager to prepare you for the field. We take pride in combining the very best in technology and tradition, preparing you not only for the field as it is today, but as it will be tomorrow. Welcome to journalism at Emerson.?
