The Elma Lewis Scholars Program is a co-curricular learning community for students who embody Emerson College’s commitment to academic achievement, inclusive excellence, and civic and global engagement. As Elma Lewis Scholars, students receive a partial renewable tuition scholarship to help ease the burden of paying for college, in addition to academic, social, and professional development support. The program is designed for students who share a commitment to diversity, inclusion, civic and global engagement. Up to 10 new scholars are selected each year and the program operates throughout their four-year enrollment. During the academic year, Elma Lewis Scholars also have the opportunity to engage in the city of Boston through signature engagement programs like Alternative Spring Break and Jumpstart among other program specific activities designed to enhance their curricular and co-curricular pursuits at Emerson. In addition, advising meetings with the Elma Lewis Center staff provide additional support for scholars.
Applying to the Elma Lewis Scholars Program
All first-year and transfer students applying for September admission, regardless of major, are eligible for consideration for the Elma Lewis Scholars Program. There is no application process for this program. Each fall, the Office of Undergraduate Admission selects up to 10 applicants from the Early Action and Regular Decision applicant pools for the Elma Lewis Scholars Program. Selected scholars will have demonstrated an interest and/or a commitment to community service, leadership, and/or social justice and academic achievement.
The Elma Lewis Scholars Program application decision has no bearing, however, on your admission decision to the College. Students can be accepted to the College without being invited to the Elma Lewis Scholars Program.
First-year and Transfer students applying for September admission have the following deadlines for scholarship consideration:
- Early Action: November 15, selected outstanding applicants notified in December
- Regular Decision: January 15, notification by April
- Transfer Students: February 1, notification by April 1
The Elma Lewis Scholars Program allows you to take advantage of individual advising, academic seminars, and co-curricular activities on and off campus. Through social events and civic engagement projects, scholars become an integral part of the Elma Lewis Center’s student learning community.
Students enrolled in the program also receive the Elma Lewis Scholarship (up to $20,000) that is renewable each academic year.
