Even with everything that’s going on in town, you’ll never have to go far to find it.
Boston is America’s college town, with an eclectic mix of college students, young professionals, families, and born-and-bred Bostonians. Many residents are transplants, hailing from across the country and around the globe, all drawn to the city’s intellect, scenery, history, and local pride. Boston is a great place to spend your undergraduate education and start your career. You may find that once you’ve lived here, you won’t be able to leave.
Emerson College is centrally located in downtown Boston, at the corner of Boylston and Tremont streets and in the Theatre District. We are on the edge of Chinatown, across the street from Boston Common, and a quick walk from the Financial District, the Boston Public Garden, the Massachusetts State House, and Boston City Hall. High-end shopping, espresso sipping, and people watching are prevalent on Newbury Street, Boston’s luxury shopping district (also just a short walk from Emerson’s campus). Boston may be best known for our sports teams and our incredibly loyal and sometimes, well, fanatical fans. Whatever your sport of choice, Boston probably has a local team that you can cheer on. If professional sports aren’t your thing, you can catch plenty of college games instead. We’re confident you’ll get caught up in the Boston pride when the Red Sox parade through our campus down Boylston Street during the Rolling Rally.
Arts and Culture
Cultural events and opportunities abound throughout the city. Visit our superb museums, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, or the Museum of Fine Arts (and many offer discounted admission with your student ID). Catch a ballet performance at the Boston Opera House, a theatrical performance in our own Cutler Majestic Theatre, or enjoy the Boston Symphony Orchestra or a student recital at the New England Conservatory or Berklee College of Music. If arts and culture are your go-to entertainment, you’ll never get bored in Boston.
Food and Dining
And did we mention food? Oh, the food. Delicious, delectable, fresh, regional, international, homemade, and homegrown. Boston’s dining options range from the traditional New England clam chowdah to the intriguing Ethiopian yasa wot. Every neighborhood has its vibe, its culture, and its prized recipe. There are several farmer’s markets throughout the city that are open from May through November. Visit them to purchase fresh-baked bread, local honey, and fresh produce so you can concoct your own signature Boston dish in your kitchen. Watch videos of some great spots to eat ?
We hope that during your time at Emerson, you’ll venture far beyond campus and see what this magnificent city has to offer. A great mix of serious academia and a busy social life—perhaps Boston sounds a little like you. So where else should you be?
